Archibald Douglas Burns

1960-1965 Controller and Auditor-General. The tenth Auditor-General of New Zealand, Archibald Douglas Burns, served as Controller and Auditor-General from 1960 to 1965.

By the time of his retirement, Archibald Burns (known as Doug), had worked 46 years in the public service - 38 of those were with the Audit Office.

Archibald (or Doug) was thought of as a "particularly nice bloke" and one who introduced modern auditing techniques to the Office.

The CBE after his name means that Mr Burns was a Commander of the Most Excellent Order of the British Empire.
